MAWASHI-GERI
Mawashi-geri Can be translated as "spin kick",
although it is also sometimes referred to as a roundhouse kick. Mawashi-geri
can be executed from a variety of attitudes, and there are several methods of
proper implementation. The portion of the implementation that is always
consistent is that the kick is executed in and on whichever angle parallel to
the floor in the direction of 45 degrees upward. In general, it is a lateral
kick strike with the foot.
If Mawashi-geri is being done with the front foot, the foot
comes straight from the ground, moved into position with knees bent back and
that leads to the desired target area on an opponent. Without stopping, upper
leg rotates into whatever corner kick will be done, and ultimately, lower leg
out to attack the opponent, and then immediately re-enter
If the kick is being made from the hind legs, other options
are available. Lift the back leg with the knee bent and leads to the side, and
the whole body rotates as the knee swings around to the front. Body rotation
and lateral foot movement adds to the momentum of the lower legs, which move in
and out the same as above.
Other possibility is a variation on the foot itself. One can
either attack with his back foot (with ankle and toes extended), or the ball of
the foot (ankle and toes bent back).
